Description
I am a scholar of Jewish and comparative literary studies. My first book, How Strange the Change: Language, Temporality, and Narrative Form (Stanford, 2011) is a comparison of modern Yiddish and post-colonial African (Anglophone and Francophone) literatures. My second book, Yiddish Writers in Weimar Berlin: A Fugitive Modernism (Indiana, 2021) focuses on Yiddish modernists of the 1920s, taken in comparison with contemporaneous developments in German-language critical theory, literature, music, and film. In addition to my primary interests in modern Yiddish culture, I have published on the depiction of race in Yiddish literature, German language film, literature, and music, Jewish humor, and the interactions or influences of Yiddish on modernist and post-modernist literatures in English, French, German, and Hebrew.
