EAJS Membership

EAJS Membership

The European Association for Jewish Studies (EAJS) is the sole umbrella organisation for Europe representing the academic field of Jewish Studies. Its primary aim is to encourage and support the research and teaching of Jewish studies at university level in Europe, and other places of higher education and learning.

Membership of the Association is open to all with an active scholarly interest in Jewish studies. The Association is a voluntary academic body and registered charity. Applications for membership should be supported by the names of two referees in the field of Jewish studies familiar with your work. We do not require that references be submitted at the time of application.

Full membership is open to scholars based in Europe. Associate membership is open to scholars not based in Europe. Student membership is open to those engaged as PhD students in the field of Jewish studies (within or outside Europe). The membership subscription for Full and Associate members is currently £35.00 per year. Student membership is free. Please note that membership is only open to individuals; institutions cannot become members.

Please note that our membership year runs from 1 January to 31 December. Payments during a membership year will be assigned to that membership year unless the member is in arrears for previous years or is already fully paid up for that year. Members who are already fully paid up for the year that a membership payment is received will be credited for the following year. For members that are in arrears for more than 1 year, a payment for the current membership year and the previous membership year (i.e. a payment for 2 years of membership) will be considered sufficient to clear all prior arrears and return the membership to active good standing for the current year. New members who apply to join on or after 1 July of a membership year will pay their annual subscription upon joining, but it will be credited to the following year with the current year being waived.

Should you wish to join EAJS, please complete the appropriate online application form. The following links are for the application forms (please select the one appropriate to the membership type you wish to apply for):

  • Full membership (resident in Europe)
  • Associate membership  (not resident in Europe)
  • Associate membership for AJS members  (not resident in Europe)
  • Student membership  (resident in Europe)

For more information about the different types of membership, please see the following page: Membership Categories and Subscription Rates.

Once your form has been submitted you will be directed to the subscription payment facility operated by WorldPay.

Russian Invasion of Ukraine

The EAJS condemns Russia’s unprecedented and barbaric aggression against Ukraine. We express solidarity with Ukraine, with its democratically-elected government and with its people. All Ukrainian academics and university students are in our thoughts and prayers. [Link for longer version of statement and resources]
