Description
I am a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions European Postdoctoral Fellow (2023-2025) at the Department of Semitic Studies at the University of Granada, Spain, under the supervision of Prof. Carmen Caballero Navas. My project, titled “Visualizing Hebrew Knowledge: Shape and Text in Scientific and Philosophical Manuscripts (VisHeK),” investigates various visual languages present in Hebrew manuscripts of science and philosophy, aiming to uncover the interactions of Jewish communities with their broader cultural environment.
This year (2023-2024), I received a Post-Doctoral Scholarship available to excellent female PhD graduates of The Hebrew University. In the years 2022-2023, I served as a Harry Starr Fellow in Judaica at the Center for Jewish Studies at Harvard University. Previously, between 2021 and 2022, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Halpern Center for the Study of Jewish Self-Perception at Bar Ilan University, Israel. I earned my PhD from the Department of Art History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in September 2021, under the guidance of Prof. Sarit Shalev-Eyni. My doctoral dissertation focused on “The Art of Medicine: Illuminated Hebrew Medical Manuscripts from the Late Middle Ages.”
My primary research interests revolve around illuminated Hebrew manuscripts from the late Middle Ages and their connections to non-Jewish cultures, with a specific emphasis on the visual language employed in the creation of scientific and medical manuscripts. I am particularly intrigued by exploring lesser-luxuries manuscripts and the visual aspects associated with them.
