Description

Albertina Oegema studied Theology at the University of Groningen, specializing in early Jewish reception history, apocalypticism, gender studies, cognitive linguistics, and rabbinic literature. She obtained her BA in Theology in 2010, and her RMA in Religion and Culture in 2013, both with cum laude-distinction. In 2014, she started her doctoral research on “Fathers and Sons in Early Rabbinic Parables” within the framework of the NWO funded research project “Parables and the Partings of the Ways” at Utrecht University, under the supervision of Dr. Eric Ottenheijm. Focusing on masculinity, agency, and emotion, she demonstrates how the character and structure of the depicted father-son relations is formed by the mutual interaction between the authority of the father and agency of the son. She obtained her doctoral decree in 2021, with cum laude-distinction. During her doctoral research, Oegema developed an interest in the Jewish life cycle, intergenerational relationships, and ageism. At the moment, she is setting up a research project in which Jewish and Christian views on old age in late antiquity are examined from a comparative perspective.
