Main research activities
The Stanley Burton Centre exists to conduct research into the Holocaust, its implications and subjects closely related to it, including Jewish history, inter-faith relations, anti-Semitism and racism, fascism and extreme right-wing political movements, crimes against humanity and genocides. It aims to foster the study of the Holocaust and these related subjects at an undergraduate and postgraduate level, to develop and disseminate advanced knowledge and reflection on the issues and values they raise. The Centre contributes to a number of modules which are available to study whilst completing undergraduate courses within History at Leicester, as well as offering a full- or part-time MA in History (Holocaust and Genocide Studies), exploring the cultural history and memory of crimes against humanity. They are also happy to supervise postgraduate students, including MA and PhD theses related to Holocaust and Genocide Studies. The activities sponsored by the Centre include a programme of research into subjects related to the Holocaust; an active out-reach programme; the annual Aubrey Newman Lecture in May; an annual one-day international workshop in May; and a Holocaust Resources Centre open to students and the wider public.
