Awards degrees in Jewish Studies as a sole or major componentLicentiate in Ancient Eastern Studies (Semitic Studies study pathway): Students on can choose to specialise in Hebrew or Aramaic. They also learn Old Testament exegesis and study integrative courses in history, religion and archaeology of the Ancient Near East, aimed at enriching the knowledge of the context that preceded and saw the birth of the biblical texts. In the final Licentiate thesis, the student must deepen a particular aspect of the Hebrew or Aramaic language, demonstrate their competence in research and learn how to present the achieved results in a scientific way.
Licentiate in Ancient Eastern Studies (Ancient Near East and Biblical Studies study pathway): Students on this path will achieve a comprehensive education in the history, languages, cultures and religions of the Ancient Near East. An interdisciplinary research approach will be encouraged within a major area and language of interest, culminating in the writing of a thesis relating the world of the Hebrew Bible to neighbouring cultures. The program is designed to offer students different perspectives (linguistic, historical, sociocultural, religious) and different methodologies. In the final Licentiate thesis the student must deepen a particular aspect of the Akkadian or Sumerian language or culture, demonstrate their competence in research and learn how to present the achieved results in a scientific way.
Licentiate in Ancient Eastern Studies (Egyptology and biblical studies study pathway): Students on this track will achieve a comprehensive education in Egyptian history, Egyptian and biblical languages, culture and religion of Egypt. An interdisciplinary research approach will be encouraged, culminating in the writing of a thesis relating the world of the Hebrew Bible to Egyptian culture. The program is designed to offer students different perspectives (linguistic, historical, sociocultural, religious) and different methodologies.
