The New Generation Group (NGG) Conference 2026, Voice, Narrative, and (Self-)Representation, Monday 11th May 2026
The New Generation Group (NGG) Conference 2026, Voice, Narrative, and (Self-)Representation, will take place on Monday 11 th of May 2026 at UCL. Bringing together researchers at all career stages, this year’s conference explores how Jewish individuals and communities have represented themselves, and how they have been narrated, interpreted, and imagined by others across time, place, and media.
The programme includes papers and panels on testimony, life-writing, literary and cultural constructions of the “Jewish voice”, portrayals in non-Jewish sources, marginalised perspectives, and the everyday traces through which Jewish life is recorded and remembered. Topics span centuries and continents – from medieval Galicia to interwar Paris, from Bradford’s Reform synagogues to New York City’s Sephardic dance halls, and from Holocaust survivor testimony to the language politics of Ben Gurion Airport during wartime.
This is a full-day conference, and free lunch will be provided for all registered attendees. To register, please complete this form. For more information, including the full programme and conference booklet, please visit the NGG website.
