New Book: Florence Place Jewish Cemetery, Ditchling Road, Brighton
A bicentenary : 1826 – 2026
This book chronicles the history of the Florence Place Jewish cemetery that celebrates its bicentenary this year. It will be of interest to those with familial links with the orthodox synagogues in Brighton, or those with a broad interest in Anglo-Jewish history. The book maps out this early Jewish cemetery, explains its history, locates it within the history of the growing town (now city) of Brighton and Hove, discusses some of the controversies about the history of the cemetery, and covers some of the key figures interred there. It also debunks some of the myths around the establishment of the cemetery and of the buildings that were located there.
The book is published as a square format, full colour hardback, sized 210 mm x 210 mm. The publication of the book has been supported by the Jewish Historical Society of England.
