EAJS Virtual 2026: Call for Expressions of Interest
Deadline for Expressions of Interest: 21 May 2026, 5 pm (BST)
The European Association for Jewish Studies is delighted to invite submissions for its annual virtual conference: EAJS Virtual. This full-day online conference should explore themes which are relevant to EAJS members in all disciplines constituting Jewish Studies.
After a successful first iteration in 2024 (with the theme of ‘Jewish Literatures, Places, and Heritage), and an inspiring conference on the reception of Maimonides (‘Translating Maimonides’) in 2025, the EAJS invites expressions of interest to host and curate its annual virtual conference in the autumn of 2026 around one of the following broad themes:
- Transnational Jewish history
- Community and Memory
- Visuality in Jewish Civilization
- Jewish-non-Jewish relations
- Jewish Social and Economic Histories
- Challenges and Potential of Artificial Intelligence in Teaching Jewish Studies
EAJS Virtual 2026 would ideally be hosted by a Jewish Studies programme, department, or research centre, or by a small team of scholars. It should take place before 31 December 2026 and be hosted on a Sunday or Monday.
A proposal should include
- a short description of the hosting institution or team,
- a brief discussion of the topic (500-1,000 words)
- a timeline for the proposed conference
The EAJS offers a contribution of up to £ 5,000 to the expenses incurred in the preparation and management of the online full-day conference. These could include costs for staff, for public relations, technical equipment or software, and honoraria for keynote speakers.
Eligibility: At least two paid-up Full Members should be among the hosts of the conference. Except for invited keynote speakers, participants should be Full, Associate, or Student Members of the EAJS.
An expression of interest should include a tentative budget. It should be sent to admin@eurojewishstudies.org before 21 May 2026, 5 pm (BST).
