Funding objective / Areas of interest: The National Scholarship Programme (NSP) of the Slovak Republic supports study/research/teaching/artistic mobility of foreign students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers and artists at universities and research organisations in Slovakia.
Type of funding available: The Slovakian National Scholarship Programme offers funding of academic mobility: student and research visits at Slovakian universities and officially recognized research organizations like the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
Undergraduate and master students are expected to stay between one and two semesters
i.e. 4 – 5 or 9 – 10 months) or one to three trimesters if at the chosen institution the academic year is divided in trimesters (i.e. 3 – 4 or 6 – 7 or 9 – 10 months)
Doctoral students and researchers are offered funding of research visits for the duration between one and twelve months.
Beneficiary type:
Eligibility criteria: • Graduate students from outside Slovakia (master’s level) accepted by a public, private or state university in the Slovak Republic
• PhD students, affiliated with non-Slovakian academic institutions, who are accepted by a public, private or state university or research organisation certified to organize a doctoral study programme (e.g. Slovak Academy of Sciences) in the Slovak Republic
• Foreign university teachers, researchers or artists invited by an organisation with a valid certificate of competence to carry out research and development seated in the Slovak Republic. Visits to business organizations are not eligible for funding.
Applicants must be citizens of the following countries:
a) Member States of the European Union;
b) other signatories to the Bologna Process (listed are only countries outside the EU) – Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Island, Kazakhstan, Liechtenstein, Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Monte Negro, Norway, Russian Federation, Serbia (including Kosovo), Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Vatican City;
c) Belarus, Uzbekistan;
d) Canada, Mexico, USA, countries of Latin and Central America;
d) Australia, China (including Taiwan), Egypt, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Republic of South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam.
Exclusions / restrictions: The NSP does not offer funding to
• foreign university students and PhD students who will begin full-time graduate or doctoral studies a in Slovakia, or those who are already enrolled in a such programmes in Slovakia and would like to fund their studies in Slovakia using a scholarship within the NSP,
• foreign university teachers, researchers and artists employed by higher education institutions or research organizations in the Slovak Republic as full-time employees (they have an employment contract according to the Labour Code),
• nationals of the Slovak Republic who study or work at higher education institutions or research organizations abroad,
• foreigners visiting Slovakia with the support of another funding programme (e.g. International Visegrad Fund, Erasmus, CEEPUS, bilateral agreements, etc.).
Applicants cannot be awarded a new scholarship sooner than after 3 years since the completion of the previous NSO scholarship stay in Slovakia (this restriction applies only to research stays of 10 months or longer).

Application guidelines: 30 April by 16:00 CET – scholarship stays in the following academic year.
31 October by 16:00 CET – scholarship stays in the summer semester of the current academic year.

a) master students -350 €
b) doctoral students – 580 €
c) academics or artists without a PhD degree (or equivalent) and with less than four years of relevant academic or artistic work experience – 580 €
d) academics or artists with a PhD degree (or equivalent) and with less than 10 years of relevant academic or artistic work experience – 850 €
e) academics or artists with a PhD degree (or its equivalent) and more than 10 years of relevant academic or artistic work experience – 1 000 €
Only work experience accumulated until the application submission deadline is taken into consideration. Doctoral studies count as work experience.
