Additional information: Founded by Jacques Levi Lassen (born, as Jacob Levi, Bergen Germany 1884, d. 1962) In 1904 he moved to the Netherlands, and in 1911 opened his shop in The Hague. He was granted Dutch Citizenship in 1920. He spent WWII in exile in the USA. He established the foundation in 1957 and bequeathed his entire inheritance to it. The Foundation purchases and restores property in The Hague through J.L. Lassen B.V., a wholly-owned subsidiary. It owns The Parkhotel Den Haag, and the Martkhof shopping arcade. Because of the foundation’s historical ties with the city of The Hague, an important part of the non-Jewish projects are devoted to furthering the social and cultural development of The Hague. It has an annual budget of €3m. In Israel the goal of the Levi Lassen Foundation is to strengthen social justice, freedom and equality for all citizens. Its special interests are Empowerment, Economic Empowerment, Fighting Poverty, Human Rights, Pluralism, Youth Leadership, Jewish-Arab Joint Living and Environmental Justice.
