Funding objective / Areas of interest: The object of the ASG is to advance research collaboration between scholars in Britain and Israel by organising academic workshops and conferences in Israel and to educate the lay and academic public on innovations and new discoveries devised by Israeli researchers. Each academic year ASG offers 20-30 Isaiah Berlin Israel Travel Awards, modest travel bursaries (which cover return air fare and a small additional sum) for travel to Israel, which are awarded to individual British academics developing new collaborative projects with academic colleagues in Israel.
Type of funding available: Small individual travel bursaries for British scholars, in any field of enquiry, to travel to Israel.
Beneficiary type:
Eligibility criteria: British academics in any field of enquiry may apply. Scholarships are only available to post-doctoral applicants. Priority is given to: First-time visitors to Israel; To scholars who have been in regular correspondence with colleagues in Israel and received personal invitations to lecture / explore joint research programmes in Israel; British scholars interested in obtaining research data for comparative Anglo-Israeli studies.
Exclusions / restrictions: Grants are not generally made to British scholars who have merely been invited to participate/present at international meetings held in Israel.
Example grants: Dr Michael Short (£300); Dr Mark Powell (£300); Professor Stephen Shalet (£205); Professor Rosenfield (£2,108); Professor Lesser Crabbe (£3,150).
Application guidelines: Applicants should submit by post: a detailed CV, a summary of reasons for wanting to visit Israel & the names of Israeli counterparts or correspondents. Applications are considered each year in March and again in November.
