Call for Applications: London Summer Institute on the Holocaust and Jewish Civilisation 2026
The Holocaust Research Institute at Royal Holloway, University of London and the Holocaust Educational Foundation of Northwestern University (USA), with the support of Pears Foundation, are pleased to invite applications for Fellowships to participate in the eighth London Summer Institute on the Holocaust and Jewish Civilisation.
The Institute will take place from Monday 22 June – Wednesday 1 July 2026 on the Royal Holloway campus in Egham, England
The programme is an intensive 10-day residential course designed to broaden and deepen the background of postgraduates in Holocaust Studies, early career academics and educators in relevant fields. It is open to full- or part-time PhD students (particularly those in their final year of study), early-career full- or part-time academic staff, and educators at recognised institutions such as museums and archives.
Nineteen Fellows will be selected, each of whom will receive free room, board and tuition during the programme. (Please note, however, that Fellowships do not cover travel expenses to and from the applicant’s home or institutional address to the UK and/or Egham). We seek Fellows from a wide variety of disciplines and all intellectual fields related to Holocaust Studies.
The Institute curriculum consists of courses, lectures and seminars taught by leading scholars on themes such as Holocaust history and historiography; the Holocaust in the Southern Mediterranean imaginary; genocide and humanitarian responses; the Holocaust in literature and film; and the Holocaust and modern thought. Faculty staff will include Dr Rebecca Glasberg, Professor Robert Eaglestone, Dr Becky Jinks, Professor Barry Langford, Dr Paris Papamichos Chronakis and Professor Dan Stone. In addition, the Institute offers a rich programme of guest lectures on special topics and field trips to relevant sites in London.
Applications should include a statement of 500 words, explaining the prospective Fellow’s interest and experience in Holocaust studies and intentions for teaching the Holocaust; a curriculum vitae (maximum three pages); plus, a letter of recommendation from a doctoral supervisor or line manager.
