Two 3-year postdoc positions focused on the Targums (1. Biblical/Jewish Studies; 2. Digital Humanities). KU Leuven, Belgium. Deadline: 31 March 2021.

Two Postdoctoral Positions

KU Leuven, Belgium

The KU Leuven, Belgium, invites applications for two 3-year postdoc positions within the European Research Council-funded project TEXTEVOLVE (grant number 818702), the focus of which is the Targums.

This exciting interdisciplinary project aims to expand the corpus of available Targum texts by recovering ‘lost’ manuscripts; subject recently discovered manuscripts to thorough textual analysis; and apply techniques from the biological sciences to the Targums in order to better understand their textual traditions. There are two positions available:

1. POSTDOC IN BIBLICAL / JEWISH STUDIES

The postdoc will focus on identifying, locating, and studying manuscripts containing Targum that are inadequately described in catalogues or the present location of which is uncertain. The project therefore offers an exciting opportunity to study and publish previously unstudied primary materials.

Further information, including how to apply, can be found here: https://www.kuleuven.be/personeel/jobsite/jobs/56143490

2. POSTDOC DIGITAL HUMANITIES

The postdoc will use computer modelling to infer the relationship between the textual witnesses and to integrate external data into the analysis in order to model the historical development of the texts. The approach is experimental, requiring flexibility and creativity, while offering the successful candidate an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of new ways of working with ancient texts.

Further information, including how to apply, can be found here: https://www.kuleuven.be/personeel/jobsite/jobs/56143479

The project team is led by prof. dr. Hector Patmore (hector.patmore@kuleuven.be). The deadline for applications is March 31, 2021.
