Call for Papers
Deadline: 1 May 2018
The Jewish Law Association in collaboration with the Moscow State University and Tel-Aviv University, is pleased to announce its 20th International Conference, to be held July 23 – 26, 2018 at Moscow State University. The conference will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Mishpat Ivri Society (in Moscow in 1918) which was the first group to imagine and work toward the rejuvenation of Jewish law as part of the Zionist project.
Interested parties are invited to submit proposals for talks on one of the four conference topics. The proposal should include a title for the talk and a 200-300 word abstract.
1. The Study/Project of Mishpat Ivri at 100 years — History, accomplishments, challenges, and frontiers;
2. Mishpat Ivri at the nexus of Jewish Law and Israeli Law.
3. Jewish Law in Russia, the Russian Empire, and the USSR
4. Universal Values in Jewish Law (to include papers on the teaching of Jewish law.)
As always, if the schedule permits the JLA will consider paper proposals concerning topics other than those central to the conference. Strong preference will be given to proposals for entire sessions. Proposals for sessions may be sent in a single file with the organizer(s) name, session title, a brief description of the session, all the abstracts for the session, and full contact details for each presenter. Please note that presenters at the conference will need to be members of the Association in good standing.
It is our expectation that a selection of the papers from the conference, as well as other papers not presented at the conference, will be published in a forthcoming volume of Jewish Law Association Studies. Please contact Phil Lieberman (firstname.lastname@example.org)or Amos Israel (email@example.com) with any questions pursuant to the conference.
Please send the proposals to JLA20conference@gmail.com.
