2024 Graduate Student Paper Award
Call for Nominations
The Association for the Social Scientific Study of Jewry (ASSJ) invites nominations for the 2024 Graduate Student Paper Award. This award recognizes outstanding research on contemporary Jewry by graduate students. Eligible papers must have been accepted for publication or published in an academic journal during 2023/2024.
Eligibility:
The award is open to graduate students enrolled at any university during the 2023/2024 academic year. In the case of multi-authored papers, the first author must meet the eligibility criteria. Active membership in ASSJ is not required at the time of submission. However, awardees are asked to join ASSJ, with one year of membership dues covered as part of the prize.
Eligible Disciplines:
We welcome submissions from a wide range of disciplines, including but not limited to: Sociology, political science, economics, anthropology, demography, psychology, social psychology, linguistics, geography, contemporary history, communications, education, religion, gender studies.
Evaluation Criteria:
The Selection Committee will evaluate submissions based on the paper’s:
• Scope and contribution to the field of contemporary Jewry
• Theoretical innovation and formulation
• Methodological rigor
• Relevance to the field
• Potential policy impact
Submission Guidelines:
Nominations can be submitted by the author or by others. The nomination package should include:
A short bio of the author
The complete published paper

Award Details:
The awardee will receive:
• A diploma, one-year ASSJ membership, and a $750 cash prize
• An invitation to present their work in an ASSJ webinar
• Recognition at the AJS annual meeting, in the journal Contemporary Jewry, and on the ASSJ website
• A public announcement coordinated with the awardee’s home institution
