Liverpool University Press is pleased to inform you of the latest content in the Journal of Jewish Studies.
Published in partnership with the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies, the Journal of Jewish Studies is an internationally renowned, peer-reviewed academic journal for the promotion of research into all aspects of Jewish studies and the leading forum in the world for new findings and discussions of Jewish history, literature, and culture from Biblical times to the present day.
Volume 75.2 features an edition of a unique Ptolemaic papyrus identifying a “Judeo-Egyptian” petitioner and the first publication of a medieval manuscript fragment combining Hebrew and Aramaic texts. The influence of the Ikhwān al-Ṣafā’ on tenth-century Jewish commentaries is reconsidered, alongside an exploration of Hebrew exegetical sources in a thirteenth-century Castilian Bible translation. The history of Jews in the Basque Country and Kabbalistic themes of visual sanctity in early modern literature are also examined. Studies on John Xeres’ conversion journey, Martin Buber’s use of Hebrew in his political activism, and the Wertheimer family’s escape from Nazi-occupied Europe provide insights into intellectual, political, and migratory dynamics in Jewish history. You will also find and extensive selection of reviews.
