Description
PhD ‘Male Circumcision and the Female Body: A Study in Identity and Gender in the Jewish and Christian Communities of Ancient Alexandria and Egypt, in Light of the New Perspective on Paul’ awarded October 2019 from King\'s College London. My thesis focused on relationships and gender in the Alexandrian-Jewish Diaspora community during the Graeco-Roman Period, and explored the theological implications and reality of male circumcision for Jewish females in the community, particularly through relationships of marriage and motherhood, using varied evidence that included both Jewish and early Christian writings. It explored what it means and what is required to belong to a religion and to a community. Lectured (FTC) in ancient historical sources at the University of Southampton. Research interests include Second Temple Judaism, gender, inclusion, and comparisons between present-day Christianity and Second Temple Judaism.
