Description
BA Classics from KCL, Mst Jewish Studies from Oxford, PhD from KCL.
My academic background is firmly based in the field of Classics; for my postgraduate studies, my focus shifted to Jews in the Roman Republic and Early Empire, and finally settled on the writings and person of Josephus. I have researched and published on the evolution of religion in its very early stages, but consider this field secondary to my research on Josephus and currently Philo. I have taught languages (NT Greek) and history (historical background to the NT/Second Temple Period) at undergraduate and graduate level. My research interests currently focus on Josephus\' and Philo\'s rewriting of biblical narratives and their use of emotions (specifically envy) as well as on Josephus\' autobiography, in terms of its genre within wider ancient literature and the different literary layers he had skilfully included.
