Description
I obtained a joint PhD in Jewish Studies between University of Bologna and École Pratique des Hautes Études, Paris.
My research concerns Italian Judaism in the medieval and modern era, with a particular focus on manuscript sources for the study of socio-economic life and cultural production of Jewish communities in Northern Italy.
I work primarily with Pinqasim and other such documents and records written in Hebrew, Judaeo-Italian, Italian or Latin, and am particularly interested in what this material can reveal about the socio-economic and cultural circumstances of the communities in which it was produced.
I am involved in different international research projects, such as ‘Sofer Mahir. Automatic Transcription of Manuscripts for an Open Source Library of Ancient Rabbinic Compositions’ developed by Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, and the French-Israeli Project ‘Tikkoun Sofrim’ aimed at making Medieval Hebrew manuscripts openly and freely available as texts. Moreover, I am Project representative for the United Kingdom and responsible for updating the online database within the international research programme ‘Books Within Books: Hebrew Fragments in European Libraries’ that deals with the finding, cataloging and dissemination of knowledge on the phenomenon of re-employment of medieval Hebrew manuscripts recovered from book bindings and notarial files.
