Description
Working at the Simon Dubnow Institute as a Chief Research Associate since 2010, and as Deputy to the Director since 2011. In February 2015 appointment to a honorary professorship for Premodern Jewries in their surrounding cultures at Leipzig University. Studied History, German Studies and Pedagogy at the universities of Bielefeld, and Hamburg, where he completed his first state examination in 1989. Research Fellow between 1990 and 1993 at the Department of History at Universität Hamburg; there, he received his PhD in 1995; subject of PhD thesis: »Jüdische Minderheit und christliche Gesellschaft im Alten Reich am Beispiel der Fürstabtei Corvey (1550–1807)«. 2000 habilitation at the Department of Philosophy and History at Universität Hamburg; subject of habilitation treatise: »Die Grenzen des geschlossenen Konfessionsstaates. Strategien und Folgen habsburgischer Rekatholisierungspolitik in Glogau und Schweidnitz (1526–1707)«. Research Associate and Academic Coordinator between 2001 and 2008 at the Leipzig Centre for the History and Culture of East Central Europe (GWZO). In 2009 acting Professor, Institute for European Studies, Chemnitz University of Technology; in 2009/10 acting Professor, Institute of History, Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg. He conducted study and research visits in Israel, Italy and Poland. 1993 to 1995 he received a scholarship from the Evangelisches Studienwerk; 1998 to 2000 he was awarded the Immanuel Kant Habilitation Scholarship from the Federal Ministry of the Interior. For his PhD thesis he received the Ignaz Theodor Liborius Meyer Prize from the Verein für Geschichte und Altertumskunde Westfalens.
