Description
“The labours of the Jews in the department of medicine belong to that part of the history of literature and civilisation which is generally supposed to be known, but is seldom specially investigated,” observed Moritz Steinschneider back in the 19th century. In the footsteps of his followers and reflecting on the practice and material turn in the history of science, I investigate the early modern medical cultures of Jews, especially those associated with Ashkenazi Jews.
