PROF IDA ZATELLI
Professor Emerita of Hebrew at the University of Florence (Italy)
Prof Zatelli founded and was the first President of the postgraduate course in Languages and Civilisations of the Ancient and Modern Orient at the University of Florence. She is Vice-President of the Italian Association for Jewish Studies (AISG). She has been a member of several Doctoral Committees at the University of Florence. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Semantics of Ancient Hebrew Database (SAHD) International Project. She is a member of the Institut Européen d’Études Hébraïques – Université de Paris VIII, the Accademia Ambrosiana (Class of Near Eastern Languages) and the Istituto Storico Toscano della Resistenza e dell’Età contemporanea.
She was responsible for the cultural and scientific collaboration agreement signed by the University of Florence and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She regularly works with this and other foreign universities.
She is a member of several scholarly societies, namely the World Union of Jewish Studies (WUJS), the European Association for Jewish Studies (EAJS), the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL), the Italian Association for Jewish Studies (AISG), the Associazione Biblica Italiana (ABI), the Società Italiana di Glottologia (SIG).
She is on the Editorial and/or Advisory Board of the Archivio di Studi Ebraici series and several academic journals, namely Materia Giudaica, Working Papers in Linguistics and Oriental Studies (QULSO), La Rassegna Mensile di Israel, LEA – Lingue e letterature d’Oriente e d’Occidente, Revue Européenne des Etudes Hébraïques, Rivista Biblica Italiana, AEC – Amicizia Ebraico-Cristiana.
Research Interests
Hebrew linguistics, Biblical hermeneutics, history of Jewish culture in Biblical and post-Biblical times as well as during the Renaissance; history of Hebrew scholarship.
She supervises national and international research projects in some of these fields.
