Further fields of interest: Urban History, Sensory Studies, Literatures and Cultures of Central Europe and Russia, Comparative Literature.
Currently working on a \"Toposmia of Lublin\", an olfactory urban history of the city of Lublin/PL in the 20th century. Here scrutinizing not only the industrial and sanitary urban smellmarks during the century, but concentrating on political and socio-cultural olfactory place-experience up to \"othering\" by smell-perception. Focus among others will be on the perception of the Jewish dwellers of Lublin, from the stereotypically remembered smell of \"bajgl-bakeries\" and \"fish&onions\" during the interwar period to the \"odour of extinction\" during German occupation up to the olfactory spotlights of totalitarism and the \"odour of transition\". Sources include oral-history-interviews, archival materials on odour politics as well as newspapers (among them Yiddish editions).
