Description
I’m a lecturer in modern European Jewish history at the University of Southampton and specialise in the history of Jews in modern Europe, Jewish politics, and legal practice. I’m currently finishing a book manuscript on Jewish internationalism in the context of post-Ottoman state-building in the Balkans in the nineteenth century. My second book project examines the role of French Jewish legal actors in imperial expansion and focuses on the French Jewish lawyer and politician Adolphe Crémieux and his wife Amélie Silny.
I received my PhD from University College London, where my research was supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Posen Foundation. I then held fellowships at the Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies, the Leibniz Institute of European History in Mainz, the German Historical Institute in Paris, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Central European University in Budapest, and Dartmouth College.
