Main research activities
The IJD is an institute of the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the WWU with a research focus on ancient Judaism and Christian-Jewish relations.
In the IJD there are regular courses on Judaic topics. Judaic courses are part of the Ev. Theology, anchored in the double bachelor's degree in Religious Studies (FB02) and in the master's degree in Ancient Cultures of the Eastern Mediterranean. Doctoral degrees on topics from the field of Jewish studies, especially ancient Judaism, are also supervised at the IJD.
The IJD cultivates the Christian-Jewish dialogue at the WWU and beyond. In addition to the Judaistic courses, which also include excursions to synagogues, the IJD offers language courses in modern Hebrew (Ivrit). Current issues of Jewish newspapers are available for reading in the institute.
The IJD offers a well-stocked library with an extensive collection of works on Jewish literature and history as well as on Christian-Jewish relations in the past and present. There is a calm working atmosphere in the premises for concentrated work.
