Main research activities
The John Rylands Research Institute brings
together experts from The University of
Manchester Library and the University’s Faculty
of Humanities in a unique partnership to uncover,
explore, unravel and reveal hidden ideas and
knowledge contained within our world-leading
Special Collections.
These Special Collections are primarily housed at
the historic John Rylands Library on Deansgate.
They have been designated by Arts Council England
as being of outstanding national and
international importance. The collections offer
rich research potential, but many sources have
until now been relatively under-used and under-
studied.
The Institute supports traditional as well as new
methods to study the collections intensively,
employing cutting-edge technology to delve deeper
and look further into the stories which the
collections document.
These special collections include works in the
field of Jewish Studies.
