Main research activities
The Germania JUDAICA is a research library specializing in the history of German-speaking Jewry. It was founded in 1959 as a private association on the initiative of citizens of Cologne. Today, with around 90,000 volumes on the history of German-speaking Jewry, it has the largest collection in this field in Germany and Europe.
Their main collection areas are:
History of German-speaking Judaism from the 17th century to the present day
anti-Semitism
Zionism and Israel
Representation of the Jews in literature
Jewish newspapers and magazines
It is a particular concern of GERMANIA JUDAICA not only to inform the public about the history of Judaism in Germany, but also to show the diversity of Jewish life today.
By collecting, developing and providing information about Judaism, we want to convey knowledge, break down prejudices and counteract anti-Semitic tendencies in society.
