Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Jewish Studies Central European University (Vienna, Austria), Sept 2022, deadline for applications: 15 June 2022

11 May 2022 by kerry.maciak86453900

Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Jewish Studies

Central European University (Vienna, Austria)

https://jewishstudies.ceu.edu/article/2022-05-09/call-applications-jewish-studies-postdoctoral-fellowship

Application deadline: 15 June 2022

Starting date: September 2022

Duration of the Fellowship: 12 months

The Jewish Studies Program at Central European University Vienna is offering a twelve-month Post-Doctoral Fellowship for research on a subject related to Jewish history, culture, and society in Europe, with a preference for modern and contemporary topics. This postdoctoral position – made possible through a partnership with two family foundations – is an exciting opportunity to join a collegial and vibrant environment, with the freedom and facilities to develop your research and strengthen your position in the academic job market. The specific disciplinary and thematic focus is open, but preference will be given to candidates whose projects speak to the Jewish experience in Central and Eastern Europe.

The primary duty of a Junior Research Fellow is to pursue his/her own research for publication. The Jewish Studies Program will provide access to the rich archival sources on Jewish history and heritage in the Blinken Open Society Archives (in Budapest) and offer academic support and peer mentorship for a Fellow who is developing his/her doctoral dissertation into a monograph-length publication and/or is advancing a new independent research project.

The Fellowship includes a monthly stipend. The Fellow is also eligible for the reimbursement of a one-off round-trip ticket to and from Vienna, Austria. The Fellow is responsible for his/her own travel arrangements and health insurance. In addition, the Fellow is entitled to a discretionary research allowance over the 12-month period. We accept applications from candidates who have been awarded their doctoral degree after August 1, 2016, or are about to complete their doctorate. Current doctoral students must provide evidence that they will receive their degree before the start date of the fellowship.

The fellow is required to be in continuous residence for the duration of the fellowship. The application should include an academic CV, a writing sample or one representative publication, a research proposal of not more than 1,500 words and the contact information of two referees. The cover letter should describe research and achievements so far and a statement of what the candidate hopes to accomplish during the tenure of the Fellowship.

The deadline for applications is June 15, 2022.

Please submit your application to: CEUJSpostdoc2022@ceu.edu

22 April 2022 by kerry.maciak86453900

New Research Project. Jewish Studies, minorities, migration studies, and cultural astronomy. Polish Academy of Sciences (Warsaw).

PERIPHERIES (MSCA COFUND) is an interdisciplinary project on the identity and scientific cultural heritage of minorities, specifically the Jewish communities of Europe and the Mediterranean between the 13th and 17th centuries. The objective is to explore and understand their cultural in/visibility in Christian societies through the analysis of certain fields of knowledge—located on the periphery of the mainstream culture— and their related practices. The focus is on the stellar sciences and their material and visual legacies as reflected in the manuscripts, images and objects that circulated among Jews and non-Jews in the geographical areas and periods above-mentioned. The project is funded by the Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie and the Polish Ministry of Education and Science. PERIPHERIES is supported by a network of experts and researchers from universities all around the world and includes conferences, workshops, courses, and different outreach activities. The project is led by Prof. Josefina Rodríguez-Arribas of the Polish Academy of Sciences (academia.edu and IHN PAN).
