Description
Wacław Wierzbieniec – historian, (PhD/Associate Professor), Head of Department of History and Jewish Culture in the Institute of History at the University of Rzeszów, Rector of The Bronisław Markiewicz State Higher School of Technology and Economics in Jarosław.
Wacław Wierzbieniec was born on 7th November 1963 in Jarosław, where he graduated from the Higher School named after Mikołaj Kopernik. He is a graduate of Higher Pedagogical School in Rzeszów (1987); the first person to obtain a PhD degree in the history of the School (1994) and the first person to obtain a post-doctoral qualification at the University of Rzeszów (2004). From 1995-2000 he was Senior Lecturer at the Jagiellonian University, and from 2005-2008 pro-rector of the Sociological and Historical Department at the University of Rzeszów. He was head of the Unit of Eastern European History and Culture, and of the Department of Jewish History and Culture, at the University of Rzeszów until 2012, when he became Head of Department of History and Jewish Culture in the Institute of History at the University of Rzeszów. He has been Rector of the Higher State School of Technology and Economics since 2011.
He was twice a grant holder of the Foundation for Polish Science, in 1993 and 1997; visiting research fellow in the Center for European Studies at New York University and YIVO Institute in New York (1997 – 1998), and also at King’s College, London (2005).
